Jerry (Chiwei) Hui has written a wide variety of music that ranges from music for orchestra that brings the soundscape of the East into Western orchestra to light-hearted choral arrangement of pop and jazz tunes. As a late-bloomer who did not start serious music training until undergraduate, Mr. Hui has already written for numerous musicians, campus ensembles and community ensembles. His music has been performed in festivals such as the Music Today Festival in Eugene and Oregon Bach Festival. His song cycle The Twelve Beauties of Jinling was selected for performance in the 6th Society of Composers Inc Student Conference in Iowa City, and his orchestral piece Wang Zhao Jun made him the first undergraduate to win the University of Wisconsin Madison Concerto Competition in 2004.

As a conductor, Mr. Hui has founded and directed several community choirs ¡V Natural Bridge Chorus, a choir dedicated to the Chinese-speaking population in Madison, WI; and Museko, a choir multicultural in both its singers and repertoire. He is active in conducting for fellow composers, and has premiered 11 new works in past 6 months. Besides Eugene Contemporary Chamber Ensemble, he has also conducted New Frontiers Orchestra, and appeared with Eugene Symphony as assistant choral conductor.

Jerry Hui is active as a performer, primarily singing in small vocal ensembles and choruses. He has sung in many top-standing choirs such as University of Wisconsin Concert Choir and Chorale, University of Oregon Chamber Choir, and Eugene Symphony Chorus. He has appeared as a baritone soloist in UW Concert Choir's spring tour in 2004, conducted by Beverly Taylor. In small vocal ensemble setting, Mr. Hui has sung bass, tenor and alto in pieces by Machaut, Byrd, Gibbons, Gesualdo among others, and also contemporary music by other fellow composers. He is also interested in Renaissance dances and gestures, and has performed in the Madison Early Music Festival. Currently he is singing in the vocal ensemble Sospiro.

A native of Hong Kong, Jerry Hui is currently pursuing a Master's degree in music composition and choral conducting at the University of Oregon. He received his Bachelor's degree in music composition and computer science from the University of Wisconsin Madison. Mr. Hui's principal composition teachers include Joel Naumann, Stephen Dembski, David Crumb and Robert Kyr. His conducting teachers are Bruce Gladstone and Sharon Paul.
